My work is meditation in motion. Each piece is created through countless repetition of the same, small movements, with gentle focus and attention to detail. It’s almost like a ritual.
A way for me to detach my mind from the rest of the world.
It's a beautiful process, through and through.
I grew up loving all kinds of art and music.
Creating things always just felt right.
During the years I spent becoming a bespoke tailor and getting a degree in fashion design I did not only learn how to properly sew, make patterns and create garments, but also how to manipulate textiles, creating new surfaces and textures.
This hit a nerve.
Experimentation became my favourite part of the process and I came to enjoy it more than the process of making clothes itself.
Eventually I started to stretch some of the results of my experiments onto old, stripped canvas frames, because I really wasn't a good painter - but I loved and wanted to preserve my samples.
This grew into what you see here today: Textiles as my form of art.
And it's safe to say my urge to create art out of the very same materials one would use to make clothes - and sometimes even re-using them - stems from a deep love and appreciation for the craft it's rooted in.
At 15 I was given a cheap, old sewing machine. I had no clue how to use it, but it sparked a love for working with textiles that persists to this day.
I learned how to sew, how to make patterns and clothes and how to alter the shape of fabric.
A lot of textile manipulation techniques look truly beautiful, but they are too fragile, too time consuming to make, or too impractical to use in making clothes. But they do deserve to be seen.
Removing them from the context of clothing and reframing them - literally - in an artistic context gives them a new place to belong.
